Project #1
Bougainville Led Civil Society Development Network
Civil society will be essential to providing deeper contributions to AROB's future development as it empowers communities to drive sustainable, locally driven change.
Project #2
Bougainville Led Accelerated Malaria Elimination
Eliminate all Bougainville-sourced malaria transmission within five years, to commence a 3-year qualifying period for WHO Malaria-Free Certification by the end of 2030.
Project #3
Bougainville Rotary Club Expansion
Expand Rotary International's presence in Bougainville by creating a new Buka Rotary Club and elevating the Arawa Rotary Community Club to full Club status. Create a range of linkages to relevant Australian Rotary Clubs to enable a reliable supply of donated equipment (mainly medical and educational) from Rotary Australia Repurposed Equipment (RARE) warehouses in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney.
Project #4
OOXii Community Vision Pilot
This project introduces the OOXii Vision Kit — a low-cost, electricity-free tool that allows trained community health workers to screen vision and provide custom glasses on the spot. With just two days of training, local staff (including community health workers, teachers, and young adults) can detect all types of refractive error, including astigmatism, and provide immediate, on-the-spot custom glasses. During the pilot, an estimated 1,200 people were screened for refractive vision, 600 customised low-cost glasses were delivered, plus 1,000 readers were distributed and 2 local implementers were trained to conduct vision assessments.
Project #5
Bougainville Mental Health - Community Education Program
The overarching program objective is to support the implementation of the Bougainville Mental Health Policy, approved by the Bougainville Executive Council in 2019. The policy recommends the implementation of 3 mental health capacity-building initiatives, to be implemented sequentially: community education, community counselling treatment, and hospital/psychiatric treatment. With advice from the Bougainville Coalition of Mental Health Advocates and coordinated through the Bougainville Director of Public Health, community mental health education will be the first of the three strategies to be implemented.
